Personally, I am not the kind of guy to seek out a cup of tea for pleasure. The only circumstance I would see myself sipping on green tea is to alleviate the agonizing pain of a sore throat. It wasn't until I tried a double shot of matcha green tea at the SoHo MatchaBar that I became a fan of antioxidant-packed drink.
Matcha is well known for its anti-oxidants and overall health benefits. Just one cup has as many antioxidants as 10 cups of brewed tea. What is even more outstanding to me is that matcha has more antioxidants than well known antioxidant-rich fruits like pomegranates and blueberries. It all boils down to the composition of the tea: green tea leaves are stone ground and pulverized to its purest form. The result is a concentrated green powder ready for your next cup of matcha.
Most of my friends, like Chris Lavish, enjoy a double shot of matcha, warm. It is smooth and delicate for those cold New York City mornings. Despite the weather, however, I prefer my matcha over ice with some almond milk all year-round. If you crave something on the sweeter side, I recommend MatchaBar's maple latte. It is my go-to iced drink, but feel free to try the hot version as well.
